Today’s Run: \u00a0Rest Day<\/p>\n
I might try to run tomorrow. \u00a0We’ll see…<\/p>\n
I have a friend with whom I run a great deal. \u00a0She is 5’9″ to my 4’11”. \u00a0We are a pair! \u00a0We get a lot of funny looks from motorists as they pass us while we are running. \u00a0We actually run about the same pace! \u00a0Go figure.<\/p>\n
She lives next door to some people who have chickens. \u00a0Her neighbors recently had a hatching of baby Easter Egger chickens and were looking to sell some of the chicks. \u00a0She wanted to know if I was interested.<\/p>\n
Was I interested!?!<\/p>\n
You all know how I have lost a few hens over the past month. \u00a0It was been devastating for me to watch them pass from illness and predators. \u00a0Yes, I was \u00a0definitely interested in some baby chicks.<\/p>\n
Last Summer, I lost my two Easter Egger hens to that mean and nasty raccoon. \u00a0One laid blue eggs and the other laid green. \u00a0Their names were Mutt and Jeff. \u00a0They did everything together. \u00a0They were a pair, those two. The opportunity to get some more Easter Eggers was too much. \u00a0I had to have some.<\/p>\n
After work last night, MFH (My Favorite Husband) and I drove to my running buddies neighbors house and selected four chicks. \u00a0One has yellow feet, one blue and two green. \u00a0I know then that I will get at least some blue and green eggs again. \u00a0I have never had a hen with yellow feet…does that mean yellow eggs? \u00a0How much fun that would be!<\/p>\n
They are six weeks old. \u00a0They are past the, “Awwww, aren’t they cute!?!” stage into the, “I am just getting my real feathers,” stage. \u00a0That means they are in the “Ugly Duckling” stage. \u00a0They still “peep”~no “cluck, cluck, cluck” as of yet.<\/p>\n
Due to the fact that they do not have all their feathers, that means they cannot be outdoors with my other hens. \u00a0They are living in the back room in an old bunny hutch. \u00a0All safe from the cats and the dog.<\/p>\n
They are noisy! \u00a0My goodness they talk a lot! \u00a0And there is a definite pecking order present! \u00a0Wowee! \u00a0Somebody is very much in charge (the one with the yellow feet)!<\/p>\n
So, that is what I did last night. \u00a0Picked up some baby chickens. \u00a0Due to the fact that they are Easter Eggers I need some Easterish names for them. \u00a0One will definitely be named Duckling. \u00a0Any name suggestions are very, very welcome!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
