{"id":2052,"date":"2013-11-23T16:13:29","date_gmt":"2013-11-23T22:13:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=2052"},"modified":"2013-11-23T16:16:57","modified_gmt":"2013-11-23T22:16:57","slug":"its-a-bust","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=2052","title":{"rendered":"Nada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s Run: \u00a05.13 miles<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I collect antique radios. \u00a0TRF (Tuner Radio Frequency) radios are my favorite. \u00a0They have been around since before they made radios electrically powered. \u00a0You had to use a large battery to operate a TRF radio.<\/p>\n<p>A requirement for me to even consider a radio is (well two requirements): \u00a01) it must be a tube radio and 2) it must be AM only.<\/p>\n<p>TRF radios are rare. \u00a0Well, TRF radios in decent condition are rare. \u00a0Finding one in operational condition is not going to happen.<\/p>\n<p>I have three TRF radios. \u00a0These radios are AWESOME! \u00a0They have three very large dials on the front. \u00a0You must tune all three dials simultaneously to be able to receive your station. \u00a0Pretty cool, huh? \u00a0These radios came out for the public to purchase in the very early 1920&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>TRF&#8217;s do not have a speaker in them. \u00a0This is back in the day of the horn speaker. \u00a0I do not have a horn speaker (much to my chagrin) and someday I hope to get one. \u00a0I do have the Tombstone speaker which came out originally in 1927. I have two of those.<\/p>\n<p>Why am I telling you this?<\/p>\n<p>Well&#8230;today I talked my husband into antique shopping. \u00a0Okay, it was his idea BUT he knew I wanted to find a &#8220;new&#8221; radio to add to my collection. \u00a0We stopped at two, count them TWO antique shops in town. \u00a0The only two shops we had not yet visited here in Columbus. \u00a0And do you know what we found? \u00a0Nothing. \u00a0Nope. \u00a0Nada. \u00a0Not a TRF. \u00a0Not a tube radio. \u00a0Shoot, not even an AM\/FM radio~ There were not any \u00a0antique radios to be found in all of Columbus, Mississippi!<\/p>\n<p>Oh well&#8230;the owner of the second antique shop told us about another antique shop in Vernon, Alabama&#8230;that is only 25 minutes away and we like Sunday afternoon drives! \u00a0Hmmm&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s Run: \u00a05.13 miles &nbsp; I collect antique radios. \u00a0TRF (Tuner Radio Frequency) radios are my favorite. \u00a0They have been around since before they made radios electrically powered. \u00a0You had to use a large battery to operate a TRF radio.
