Yesterday’s Run: \u00a013.1 miles \u00a0 Today’s Run: \u00a0Rest Day<\/p>\n
Yesterday I ran the Shakerag Half Marathon in Tupelo, Mississippi. \u00a0This was advertised as a “Medium Advanced Half Marathon”~whatever that is supposed to mean. \u00a0I had entered it on a whim…as a training run for my Ultra.<\/p>\n
It was a lovely day to be running! \u00a0Overcast skies. \u00a0Low 50’s F. \u00a0Light breeze. \u00a0Perfect!<\/p>\n
The water stops were every two miles and were supported by very enthusiastic people. \u00a0Lots of signs and costumes and cheering and most important of all…water and Gatorade! \u00a0The water stops were great.<\/p>\n
The traffic control was terrific, too. \u00a0We began and ended the race (out and back again route) on a busy, undivided four lane highway in downtown Tupelo. \u00a0The rest of the miles were out of the city limits in a residential area full of rolling hills. \u00a0Very pretty.<\/p>\n
Not a lot of people out cheering though. \u00a0There was one family at the end of their driveway cheering and one lone guy with his guitar playing. \u00a0That was it. \u00a0A little disappointing in that regards.<\/p>\n
I was hoping that this route did not have hills. \u00a0It did. \u00a0Itty bitty hills compared to the marathon I just finished a few weeks ago but they were still there. \u00a0Some day I am going to run a flat as a board road race!<\/p>\n
My fastest half marathon up until yesterday was 2:48. \u00a0Yesterday’s time was 2: 36. \u00a0I am thrilled with the time! \u00a0I guess all that training I have been doing has paid off!<\/p>\n
That was the last race of 2013 for me. \u00a0My next scheduled race is January 1, 2014. \u00a0The Steam Whistle 12K in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. \u00a0MFH (My Favorite Husband) and I will be running that one together (yesterday’s race I ran solo). \u00a0The January 1, 2014 12K will have (instead of bananas) black eyed peas and cabbage for good luck in the New Year!!! \u00a0Can’t wait!!!<\/p>\n
