{"id":1997,"date":"2013-10-29T13:59:56","date_gmt":"2013-10-29T18:59:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=1997"},"modified":"2013-10-29T13:59:56","modified_gmt":"2013-10-29T18:59:56","slug":"unhappy-chickenshappy-chickens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=1997","title":{"rendered":"Unhappy Chickens\/Happy Chickens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My chickens are the happiest birds I know. \u00a0They run and flap their wings and cluck, cluck, cluck when I come out the the chicken tractor.<\/p>\n<p>Before we left on our ten day trip, I noticed that the coop was getting &#8220;odoriferous&#8221;. \u00a0It smelled BAD. \u00a0I knew it needed cleaning. \u00a0The chickens knew it needed cleaning. \u00a0I was flat out out of time to do the cleaning so it remained un-done.<\/p>\n<p>I have a sensitive nose. \u00a0I can smell things that my husband cannot. \u00a0He could not smell the chickens before we left for our trip but when we got home, he COULD smell the chickens. \u00a0I HAD to clean that coop.<\/p>\n<p>Today was the day.<\/p>\n<p>Gross.<\/p>\n<p>I worked on the tractor for over an hour. I worked with a shovel. \u00a0I worked with the hose. \u00a0I worked with my bare hands (icky). \u00a0I scrubbed, hacked and sprayed that tractor\/coop until it was pristine.<\/p>\n<p>It looked great! \u00a0It smelled great! \u00a0The chickens are happy again! \u00a0They did not like it all dirty. \u00a0I sprayed for mites and put fresh bedding in the nesting boxes. \u00a0They had to come up and supervise this~the bedding must be Just Right for their birdie bottoms to lay the eggs. \u00a0Fussy chickens.<\/p>\n<p>They watched as I cleaned out their food tray. \u00a0Taste tested the new food, grit and oyster shell. \u00a0Tested the fresh water~I put \u00a0ACV (apple cider vinegar) in the water~that is a natural de wormer for chickens, \u00a0climbed the ladder to the roosting area and promptly pooped. \u00a0ARGH!<\/p>\n<p>Oh well&#8230; it was clean, pristine even, for 3-5 minutes. \u00a0The chickens were getting disgruntled about the condition of their living quarters but they are now doing their chicken dance. \u00a0They are happy!<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s hear it for happy chickens!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My chickens are the happiest birds I know. \u00a0They run and flap their wings and cluck, cluck, cluck when I come out the the chicken tractor.
