Today’s run: Schaeffer’s Chapel: \u00a05 miles<\/p>\n

There is a cute little chapel, out in the middle of nowhere, that we use as a destination for one our runs. It is a favorite destination as it is a fun run and a comfortable distance. \u00a0Shaeffer’s Chapel.<\/p>\n

The road, Shaffer’s Chapel Road (notice the spelling of the name of the road vs. the spelling of the name of the Chapel) is quaint. \u00a0When we began running it, it was primarily blacktop with a few spots of gravel here and there, but now it is two-thirds gravel and the blacktop is a mess. \u00a0The two things that stay constant are the Chapel and the Bridge.<\/p>\n

This bridge is a plank bridge. \u00a0It is kind of creepy the first time you go over it and today it was still creepy. \u00a0The planks flip up and the ends, when you go on them, feel like you are running on a see-saw. \u00a0Up and down. \u00a0I know I said it is creepy but it is also totally awesome! \u00a0This bridge is a throwback to the “good ol’ days” \u00a0the days when things were made to last…<\/p>\n

So, I found out today that this bridge actually has a name. \u00a0It is called the Motley Slough Bridge and was constructed in 1920 and is still in regular use today. \u00a0This bridge is on the National Register of Historic Places and if you want, you can \u00a0 “Goggle it” and see some nice pics of it and read up on it. \u00a0As it is, here is a pic we took this morning of the bridge on our way back home.<\/p>\n
