{"id":1910,"date":"2013-09-26T12:49:01","date_gmt":"2013-09-26T17:49:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=1910"},"modified":"2013-09-26T12:49:01","modified_gmt":"2013-09-26T17:49:01","slug":"happy-birthday-to-you-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=1910","title":{"rendered":"HaPpY BiRtHdAy To YoU!!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s Run: \u00a05.29 miles<\/p>\n<p>No&#8230;Not today, but Saturday we will be celebrating my son&#8217;s birthday. \u00a0He is my youngest (out of two children) and he will be turning 24 years old. \u00a0The time seems to have flown by.<\/p>\n<p>I had a very difficult pregnancy with my son. \u00a0It was a high risk pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>I went into labor in my sixth month. \u00a0All the regular things they used to halt labor failed. \u00a0The Doctor came into my room and said, &#8220;Mrs. Howard, you are going to lose this baby unless we can stop the labor&#8221;&#8230;and went on to explain that my son&#8217;s lungs were not developed enough for him to survive, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Then he mentioned a new medication that was not on the FDA approved list and the delivery method which also was not FDA approved. \u00a0Would I be willing to be \u00a0&#8220;guinea pig&#8221; for FDA testing?<\/p>\n<p>What a silly question! \u00a0Of course I would!!!<\/p>\n<p>So, we began the new medication and the delivery system.<\/p>\n<p>It worked!<\/p>\n<p>I was still in labor (my son was still born one month early) the rest of my pregnancy BUT the contractions were ineffective. \u00a0Lovely. \u00a0I was put on complete bed rest. \u00a0And for me, I did pretty well on the bed rest thing.<\/p>\n<p>The problem was my daughter. \u00a0She was 14 months old at the time.<\/p>\n<p>My MIL very graciously quit her two jobs and came and lived with us for the remainder of my pregnancy. \u00a0She cooked the meals. \u00a0Did the laundry. \u00a0Cleaned the house. \u00a0Took care of my husband, my daughter and myself. \u00a0She was a lifesaver!!! \u00a0Awesome woman, she is!<\/p>\n<p>My son was born healthy. \u00a0He was a little skinny being a month early but he had a strong set of lungs and knew how to use them! \u00a0My Dad was there for his birth (out in the hallway with my daughter~My MIL was a home taking care of a few issues). \u00a0My son was born almost a week exactly after my Dad&#8217;s 50th birthday. \u00a0I tease my Dad that my son was his birthday present.<\/p>\n<p>Now, 24 years later, there have been great advances in medicine. \u00a0To this day I do not know if they routinely use the stuff I tried out on pre-term labor patients.<\/p>\n<p>Every year about this time, I reflect on those months of medication. \u00a0Of giving myself IV&#8217;s. \u00a0Of constantly wearing a fetal heart rate monitor. \u00a0Of the many, many trips into the ER to AGAIN halt the labor because what we were doing at home needed an extra &#8220;Umph&#8221; that only they could do at the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>We had a very happy ending to that story. \u00a0My son is the best. \u00a0He is now a Senior in college studying in the Meteorology Program to be a weather man! \u00a0Who would have thought it???<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s Run: \u00a05.29 miles No&#8230;Not today, but Saturday we will be celebrating my son&#8217;s birthday. \u00a0He is my youngest (out of two children) and he will be turning 24 years old. \u00a0The time seems to have flown by.
