But I was prepared for dealing with all the mundane household irregularities that would creep up on me by myself. But I was not prepared for the week that I encountered.

It all started when I woke up the Sunday morning he was to leave and found one of my chickens dead. Half in and half out of the chicken tractor. Something had tried to pull her through the tractor and had failed. But she was not able to live through the encounter. My husband helped me get her out of the bars of the tractor, get everything cleaned up and get him to the airport. All was well.

The next morning, another dead chicken. Same thing. I went out and bought traps. They failed.

Contacted the DOW (Department of Wildlife). They brought out fancier traps. Caught a Raccoon. But not until I had lost hen #3. I was not happy.

All this time, my husband was in Colorado, occupied with office things. He really was busy. He had to fit a LOT of things into the one week he was out there.

In the mean time, I kept baiting the DOW trap. Each morning the bait was gone but there was nothing in the trap! Hmmm…I was afraid to stop trapping. The DOW guy said to keep trying. So, I did.

Finally, it was Saturday and my husband was supposed to fly home. His flight in Denver was delayed. He was able to make it to Atlanta where he met with more delays. Maintenance. Atlanta finally gave him a new plane and sent him off to GTR (our airport). They circled GTR for quite and while and had to go back to Atlanta. Why???

I’ll tell you why. They closed the control tower at GTR at 8:00! Rolled up the sidewalks. They made an announcement that my husbands flight would land in 20 minutes and that was the last anyone heard anything from anybody. They closed the airport and did not tell a soul!!!

At 11:00 pm those of us waiting in the waiting room, our cell phones started ringing. The conversations went like this.

“We are on the ground.”

‘Wonderful!”

“In Atlanta.”

“What!?!”

My husband was put up on a hotel for a few hours sleep and flown back to GTR Sunday morning. It was wonderful to see him again!

They lost his luggage.

Figures.

But we have his luggage and the DOW guy just came to pick up his fancy trap. I think life is back to “normal” now??? Sure hope so!

Today’s Run: Rest Day Last week was the strangest week of my life.
