Today’s Run: \u00a0Rest Day<\/p>\n
Ginger, the Hen: \u00a0Buff Orpington hen. \u00a0July 2012~August 2013<\/p>\n
Ginger, the hen, was a primary character in a children’s story series published in a regional family magazine in Columbus, Mississippi. \u00a0She and the hen Ed Stakrispie would solve a mystery every month for the children to read. \u00a0She will be missed by her young readers.<\/p>\n
Yesterday, Ginger, the hen met her match in a tussle with a raccoon. \u00a0It was a very sad way for Ginger to pass.<\/p>\n
“Farmer Suzie”, (AKA: \u00a0me) went out to the chicken tractor to feed the hens only to discover Gingers remains. \u00a0The other hens were very upset by what was left of Ginger and were kicking up quite the fuss. \u00a0I called my husband who helped me dislodge her from the wires of the chicken tractor and dispose of her. \u00a0It was awful.<\/p>\n
This is the first hen I have lost to a predator.<\/p>\n
Ginger was aloof from the other hens~a loner if you will. \u00a0She would not roost with them in the roosting area\/the safe area of the chicken tractor at night but would instead stay on the ground at night. \u00a0This is what led to her demise. \u00a0Something got a hold of her through the wires of the tractor and tried to pull her through the wires. \u00a0It did not work and Ginger passed.<\/p>\n
I am sad.<\/p>\n
On a happier note…I was able to successfully run my 19 miles on Friday! \u00a0YAY!!! \u00a0My husband was with me. \u00a0He ran 10 and walked 8 to complete 18 miles. \u00a0It was 79 F. and 97% humidity when we began at 4:00 am. \u00a0I forgot to look when we were done 5 hours later. \u00a0I guess ignorance is bliss? \u00a0It is done and in the books!<\/p>\n
Today sees my husband and I completing week 8 of our marathon training. 10 weeks until race day!!!<\/p>\n
