Today’s Run: \u00a011.43 miles<\/p>\n
We have a little neighbor boy. \u00a0He is around six year old~cute as can be. \u00a0He likes to come to our house. \u00a0He just learned to ride his bicycle without training wheels so he is enjoying his new found freedom.<\/p>\n
Our little neighbor boy (Braxton) just received permission to ride his bike as far as our house. \u00a0Before that, he had to stop at the middle house so his Mama could still see him. \u00a0I think they trust us because our house is kind of out of sight when he is riding his bike.<\/p>\n
A couple of days ago, Braxton came over and asked if he could see the chickens. \u00a0I told him he had to ask permission first. \u00a0He lit out of here back home as fast as he could go! \u00a0I ran into the house and asked my husband to take an egg down to a nesting box so Braxton could “find” it.<\/p>\n
We no sooner got that done that here came Braxton. \u00a0He was a happy guy. \u00a0Mama said yes!<\/p>\n
We walked down to the chicken tractor with some homemade bread for the chickens. \u00a0Braxton carefully broke the bread into small pieces to feed the chickens. \u00a0They put on a show jumping all over each other trying to get the bread before another chicken beat them to it. \u00a0He was loving it!<\/p>\n
Then we checked the nesting box and would you believe it, there was an egg! \u00a0Braxton was so excited!!!<\/p>\n
“Is this a chicken egg?” he asked.<\/p>\n
“Yes”<\/p>\n
“Does it have a yolk?” asked Braxton.<\/p>\n
“Yes, it has a yolk.”<\/p>\n
He took off for home as fast as his 6 year old legs would take him and stopped at the middle house,<\/p>\n
“I gotta show my Mama! \u00a0Thank you!”<\/p>\n
He was back today. \u00a0He wanted to visit the chickens. \u00a0This time there was no opportunity to plant an egg. \u00a0I told him, sure he could visit the chickens! \u00a0We went and I had my fingers crossed.<\/p>\n
We peeked into the nesting boxes and Whew~! \u00a0There was an egg! \u00a0A green egg from one of my Easter Eggers. \u00a0I told him he needed to eat it with some ham. \u00a0I do not think he got it~my sense of humor kind of grows on you…<\/p>\n
He petted one of the hens while I held her and remarked on how soft she was. \u00a0Then again, off he went for home with his green egg. \u00a0A thank you from him and a reminder from me to wash his hands after petting the chicken and he was gone.<\/p>\n
