My favorite radios I have were manufactured before they even produced electric powered radios! These things were run by batteries resembling the size of a car battery~and of course they are all “tube” radios. How awesome is that!?!

My oldest radio is a 1925 “Coffin Style” radio. That means it hinges open and the lid lifts like the lid of a coffin. These “coffin radios” are battery operated and have three very large dials. Sometimes they are called TRF (Tuner Radio Frenquency) radios. I have three of them and they are the favorites of all the radios in my collection.

BUT~today, I have added to my collection and it will be my oldest piece to date.

On Sunday, I am going to take possession of a 1898 National Phonograph Cabinet Victrola! How awesome is that!?! This will be the first Victrola I have ever purchased.

The National Phonograph Company was owned and operated by the inventor of the phonograph~Thomas Edison! This is a coup for me and I am very excited about it!

This Victrola is in reasonable condition for being over 100 years old. The Grille cloth is tired and the cabinet has a few dings but other than that, it is in very nice shape. The people from whom I am purchasing this was going to restore the cabinet! That is such a HUGE NO-NO! Restoring cabinets actually makes the piece De-crease in value! So, I caught it just in time.

Anyway, on Sunday afternoon, you will find my husband any myself driving from our home in Mississippi to a little town SE of Memphis, TN. It will make a nice Sunday afternoon drive of about 2 1/2-3 hrs each way. NO Problem! We enjoy driving so it will be a lovely way to spend our Sunday once church is over.

Looking forward to seeing this in person. Here is one of the photos she sent me of the Victrola. Hope you enjoy seeing it!

Today’s Run: Rest Day I have had this obsession with antique radios for years. The older they are, the better.
