Today’s Run: \u00a04.40 miles<\/p>\n
I have been delinquent. \u00a0My mother would probably make some comment to the effect that I have been a delinquent all of my life~you have to love a mom’s sense of humor. \u00a0But I have been delinquent in writing my blog the past couple of days.<\/p>\n
I think I wrote on Saturday, \u00a0I know I missed Friday and yesterday (Sunday) so I am back at it today.<\/p>\n
The problem stems from being so tired from marathon training and running out of things to tell you guys. \u00a0So, today I am going to tell you about the Dumb, Dumb, Dumb thing I did on Friday (the day that I forgot to write).<\/p>\n
I mowed on Friday. \u00a0Bells and Whistles to me! \u00a0It had been almost an entire week since I had mowed but with all the rain we have been receiving, mowing has been out of the question. \u00a0Friday there was not a cloud in the sky so I jumped at my opportunity and mowed.<\/p>\n
Now, there is something you need to understand about mowing, rain and living in the South-eastern part of the United States. \u00a0We have Fire Ants and they “pop” out of the ground after it has received a good soaking. \u00a0When I mowed on Friday, there were quite a few ant hills in the yard~some of them up to a foot high.<\/p>\n
I love mowing over ant hills. \u00a0The following pass, you get to see a lot of very angry fire ants milling around trying to repair the damage you just did to their “home”. \u00a0Ha! \u00a0I get a great deal of satisfaction in destroying their hills due to the many times they have “chewed” on me and left welts on my hands and feet. \u00a0They are nasty little things.<\/p>\n
As I was mowing, I got ready to obliterate a good sized ant hill by running over it with the mower when the wind picked up~just as I was going over the ant hill. \u00a0Uh-oh.<\/p>\n
You guessed it. \u00a0The breeze blew all those ants onto me. \u00a0Bad. Bad. Bad.<\/p>\n
I tried to keep on mowing and just brush off the ants. \u00a0That was not working. \u00a0So, I shut off the mower (I have a John Deere Z425 Zero Turn Radius riding mower) and hopped down. \u00a0I was covered in ants.<\/p>\n
I found myself doing a little dance and brushing myself off. \u00a0Then I began to feel the “Sting” as the ants bit me. \u00a0Rats! \u00a0I danced and brushed some more. \u00a0Finally, I think I got all of the ants off of me and hopped back on the mower.<\/p>\n
Dummy me did not check the seat of the mower before I sat down. \u00a0Let us just suffice it to say that I got bit some more.<\/p>\n
The bites are now healed. \u00a0I have learned my lesson. \u00a0Always check for a breeze before you mow over Fire Ant hills!<\/p>\n
