{"id":1737,"date":"2013-07-13T16:35:03","date_gmt":"2013-07-13T21:35:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=1737"},"modified":"2013-07-13T20:12:41","modified_gmt":"2013-07-14T01:12:41","slug":"marathon-training-week-4-day-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=1737","title":{"rendered":"Marathon Training Week 4, Day 6"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s Run: \u00a015.20 miles<\/p>\n<p>My husband and I are training for the Mount Desert Island Marathon in Bar Harbor, Maine.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mdimarathon.org\/\">http:\/\/www.mdimarathon.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We just completed Week 4, Day 6 today of our training schedule today. \u00a0That leaves us 14 weeks until race day. \u00a0Tomorrow is a rest day. \u00a0YAY!<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s run was a bit over 15 miles. \u00a0We are wanting to try to get a 23 mile training run in before the race so we have accelerated our training schedule a little.<\/p>\n<p>I learned something today. \u00a015 miles is a loooong way to run. \u00a0I had never run that distance before. \u00a0And each coming week it will be the same. \u00a0It will be a new adventure in distance running. \u00a0How far this week? \u00a0Farther than last week!<\/p>\n<p>All in all, I would say that today&#8217;s run was a smashing success. \u00a0I ran the entire distance~no walking! \u00a0That is good. \u00a0The furthest I had ever run before was 14 miles and that was back in March, so today was a HUGE day. \u00a0Next week will be 16 miles and so on, and so on&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>My husband has run two marathons in the past. \u00a0When I mentioned to him that I really, really, really wanted to run one myself he kind of groaned. \u00a0I remembered him training for his last one and how all consuming it was for him. \u00a0But it really cannot be all that bad, can it?<\/p>\n<p>Let us just say, I am happy that the runs we have during the week are little 5,6 and 7 milers. \u00a0If they were any larger than that, I think I might combust!<\/p>\n<p>I talked to the people who host the running group each Saturday and asked them, &#8220;How early is too early to show up on Saturday mornings?&#8221; They said we could come as early as 4:00 am. \u00a0That was wonderful news!<\/p>\n<p>I am a S-L-O-W runner and with these longer runs, I need all the time I can get! \u00a0Plus, we live in Mississippi and that equals very hot and humid weather. \u00a0The earlier we can begin our long runs, the better.<\/p>\n<p>So, next weekend we will attempt 16+ miles. \u00a0Yikes! \u00a0I do realize that by the time the race arrives I will wish all we had to run was 16. \u00a0It is all a matter of perspective. \u00a0I can think, &#8220;Okay, 16 miles that means only 10.2 more miles and I will have run the entire distance!&#8221; \u00a0or it could be &#8220;Oh No! \u00a0I still have another 10.2 miles to go!&#8221; \u00a0It is going to be a mind game for me to keep myself motivated (and my husband motivated) and to think positive thoughts about this race.<\/p>\n<p>So far, this training has been a blast! \u00a0Hope to keep it that way~! \u00a0Wish us luck!!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s Run: \u00a015.20 miles My husband and I are training for the Mount Desert Island Marathon in Bar Harbor, Maine.http:\/\/www.mdimarathon.org\/ We just completed Week 4, Day 6 today of our training schedule today. \u00a0That leaves us 14 weeks until race day. \u00a0Tomorrow is a rest day. \u00a0YAY!
