Today’s Run: \u00a05.50 miles<\/p>\n
I thought those were the last words I would ever hear my husband say to me. \u00a0“Go! Go! Go! Go! Go!”.<\/p>\n
We were running to our favorite destination this morning, Schaeffer’s Chapel. \u00a0They are making Highway 45 S. just West of Columbus, Mississippi, into a four lane Highway instead of just a two lane. \u00a0We live right off of this Highway (about 2 miles South) and to get to Schaeffer’s Chapel, we must cross the Highway.<\/p>\n
We had been crossing the Highway right near our house but due to the road construction, this was no longer feasible. \u00a0This meant a two mile run on Highway 45 S.<\/p>\n
Highway 45 S. is a heavily traveled road and its speed limit is set at 55 MPH~ which means everyone is driving at 70 MHP. \u00a0One particular spot, the spot where we ran into a tight spot this morning, is a bridge. \u00a0Running along the Highway is not a problem (in my book). \u00a0There is a reasonable shoulder to the road so you do not feel pressure from passing motorists to jump for safety. \u00a0But the bridge…<\/p>\n
The bridge is about 400 yards long and there is no shoulder. \u00a0It is a two lane bridge with traffic going opposite directions in each lane. \u00a0You have your dotted line down the middle, the white lines on the sides and the concrete barriers right up next to the white line. \u00a0That leaves you, the runner, without a place to hop off the road should traffic get tight.<\/p>\n
This morning, on our return trip, we reached the bridge and all of a sudden, there was traffic coming from both directions. \u00a0If we really moved, we might make it across the bridge in time. \u00a0IF…<\/p>\n
I am not a fast runner. \u00a0Never have been. \u00a0But this morning, my feet had wings! \u00a0We were about half way across the bridge when we knew that unless we really started moving, we were going to be squished. \u00a0My husband yelled (he never yells!), “Go! Go! Go! Go! Go!”. \u00a0And I ran!!!<\/p>\n
I took a peek at my Garmin (couldn’t help it!) and I was doing a 10 min mile! \u00a0Wowee!!! \u00a0I have never run that fast in all my life! \u00a0But, I heard the urgency in his voice, and he was behind me, which meant he would get off the bridge after me, and I ran even harder.<\/p>\n
