Today’s Run: \u00a0Rest Day<\/p>\n
Eeeek!!! \u00a0That is what I said. \u00a0But it was all Paxton’s fault. \u00a0He started it.<\/p>\n
I was having a quiet dinner of scrambled eggs by myself (my husband and son were gone fishing) when the dog started going nuts. \u00a0He was whining and scratching at the door. \u00a0He really wasn’t acting like he had “to go”, so I couldn’t figure out what was the problem. \u00a0I really did not want to leave my eggs because everybody knows that cold eggs are gross!<\/p>\n
Paxton was persistent, so I left my eggs and looked out the back door. \u00a0There, in the back yard were my chickens, eight of my nine chickens wandering around the back yard. \u00a0One of them was even up on the patio! \u00a0No wonder Paxton was having kittens! \u00a0Oh, boy! \u00a0Now what do I do!?!<\/p>\n
I went out the door. \u00a0Told Paxton to “STAY!” (He obeyed! \u00a0Miracles never cease!) and tried to round them up. \u00a0They came up to me as happy as can be, “Cluck, cluck, cluck”, “Let’s play!”. \u00a0I tried to catch them and they kept right out of reach. \u00a0I guess we were playing. \u00a0I did not like the game.<\/p>\n
I knew this to be a lost cause and went back into the house and grabbed a yard stick and a wool duster on a long stick. \u00a0I then trudged two doors down to the neighbors house. \u00a0Fortunately one person was home and was willing to “Play”. \u00a0He took the sticks and we devised a plan. \u00a0The chickens did not stand a chance. \u00a0We were a team. \u00a0They were independent souls. \u00a0Ha!<\/p>\n
One by one, we caught ourselves a chicken. \u00a0We would corner one and my neighbor would keep the hen in place and I would grab her by her tail feathers (I was tired of being nice) and drop her over the fence. \u00a0It took us almost 45 minutes to catch 8 silly chickens! \u00a0They really liked to “Play”.<\/p>\n
They are now in their pen. \u00a0They are disgruntled but they are safe and sound. \u00a0Nobody likes being picked up by their tail feathers. \u00a0Hope they forgive and forget fast!<\/p>\n
