Today’s Run: \u00a0Rest Day<\/p>\n
Call me Ishmael. \u00a0Probably one of the most famous introductions known to mankind (aside from, “It was a dark and stormy night…”). \u00a0This small sentence draws the reader into one of the most exciting adventure stories ever written. \u00a0Or at least that is what my husband tells me. \u00a0I must admit to never being able to get past that first sentence. \u00a0I admit to finding Moby Dick a dull read.<\/p>\n
Now, War and Peace on the other hand, that is riveting reading. \u00a0Who knew that they wrote soap opera stories back in 1869. \u00a0This book is epic \u00a0in scale and has become one of the most important works of literature. And it is LOOONG. \u00a0Tolstoy knew what he was doing when he wrote that chronicle.<\/p>\n
I had a discussion with a MFP friend today regarding Moby Dick, War and Peace and Zig Ziegler. \u00a0We both agree, at least I think we do, that people misquote things and people think that Moby Dick is a nice fishing tale. \u00a0The one that got away, as it were.<\/p>\n
Nobody seems to know what War and Peace is about. \u00a0I’ll give you a clue…war and peace! \u00a0Did you know that there are approximately 160 real people named or referred to in this novel? \u00a0Fascinating! \u00a0This book Begins in the year 1805 during the reign of Alexander I and leads up to the 1812 French invasion of Russia by Napoleon. \u00a0It covers the story of five aristocratic families and their personal lives. \u00a0It reads like an old fashioned soap opera!<\/p>\n
I read this book while I was expecting my son. \u00a0I had a complicated pregnancy and was on complete bed rest from the beginning of my 6th month until delivery. \u00a0I utilized my time by taking care of my 14 mo. old daughter and reading this wonderful historical fiction. \u00a0Moby Dick cannot hold a candle to War and Peace.<\/p>\n
Do they live happily ever after? \u00a0You will just have to pick up a copy! \u00a0It is not a light read, but it is a page turner. \u00a0Maybe after you read War and Peace, you will read Moby Dick for me. \u00a0I hear it is a story about a fish…<\/p>\n
