Today’s Run: \u00a04 miles<\/p>\n

Saturday’s blog was sad, sad, sad! \u00a0Saturday was an “Oh, dreadful day!”. \u00a0Today’s blog should prove to me much happier!!!<\/p>\n

My husband and I discussed finding more hens to replace the two that I had lost. \u00a0One to Marek’s Disease and the other one to ??? \u00a0We do not know what was wrong with her. \u00a0We just know that we had to put her down. \u00a0Sad.<\/p>\n

So, yesterday afternoon I was on Craigslist looking for people with hens. \u00a0I stumbled upon a FB group for NE Mississippi that was strictly poultry people. \u00a0I quickly applied to be on the group and they approved my application a while later.<\/p>\n

I was scrolling through the posts and came upon one from a nice lady who lived about 20 minutes from us. \u00a0She had 19 hens and 2 roosters she was trying to sell~quickly and inexpensively. \u00a0I messaged her and we decided that I would come out and look at her flock. \u00a0They were very nice birds. \u00a0Healthy, happy and soon to be out of a home because the people were moving to a place that did not allow chickens. \u00a0I came home with five new hens!<\/p>\n

The new hens and my old hens are actually getting along pretty well! \u00a0I am surprised!!! \u00a0They are, of course, establishing the “pecking order”, determining who is top dog, so to speak. \u00a0I have been bringing everyone treats~an ice breaker~everyone gets a treat…leftover risotto from lunch, some homemade bread, meal worms (those things creep me out!) and of course 22% protein laying pellet, grit and oyster shell. \u00a0They all feel special and I think that is helping. \u00a0I have not heard any major squabbling…except from the hen who was occupied in the nesting box when I brought out the risotto and she was afraid she would miss out (I saved her some:).<\/p>\n

I should now have eggs, eggs, and more eggs! \u00a0That is nice. \u00a0I like to give them away to friends and family. \u00a0Goodness knows that if I am getting nine (I now have 9 laying hens) eggs a day, multiplied by 7 days a week…well, you can do the math. \u00a0It is a lot of eggs!<\/p>\n
