{"id":138,"date":"2012-05-17T17:52:51","date_gmt":"2012-05-17T17:52:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=138"},"modified":"2012-05-17T23:56:33","modified_gmt":"2012-05-17T23:56:33","slug":"fartleks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=138","title":{"rendered":"Fartleks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s Run: 3:37 miles speed work<\/p>\n<p>Today on our morning run we decided to do speed work. \u00a0We used to do this once a week but got away from it due to training for various races and the need to get our miles in for endurance\/distance.<\/p>\n<p>In any good training program for runners, you will see something called fartleks. \u00a0This is a silly word for running repeats. \u00a0Sprints. \u00a0You set a distance and run like crazy then walk back to the start and do it again. \u00a0Repeats. \u00a0Fartleks.<\/p>\n<p>Some people will use the distance between utility poles to mark off their distance but our poles are an uneven distance and plus there is a curve in the road that messes us up, so, we measure off 100 yards out in front of &#8220;Mamma&#8217;s House&#8221; (our neighbor) and our front yard. \u00a0Then we are off like a herd of turtles.<\/p>\n<p>We ran one mile for a warm up then did twenty repeats. \u00a0That equaled out to our 3.37 miles distance today. \u00a0It does not sound like much but boy are you pooped when you are done! \u00a0We do our warm up, then three easy, three medium and three hard repeats then repeat until we reach twenty. \u00a0No problem!<\/p>\n<p>This is what fartleks look like on a GPS running program.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_139\" style=\"width: 943px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/fartleks.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-139\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-139\" title=\"fartleks\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/fartleks.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"933\" height=\"395\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/fartleks.jpg 933w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/fartleks-300x127.jpg 300w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/fartleks-500x211.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 933px) 100vw, 933px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-139\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Compliments of my Garmin Forerunner 305<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s Run: 3:37 miles speed work Today on our morning run we decided to do speed work. \u00a0We used to do this once a week but got away from it due to training for various races and the need to get our miles in for endurance\/distance.
