Today’s Run: 50 min lifting at the “Y”<\/p>\n

This is not a story about “happy trees” or “happy little streams” but about the real joy of painting in oils.<\/p>\n

I began oil painting in, I think it was, 2003. \u00a0A few years ago anyway. \u00a0A lady in my church was a painter and gave free lessons to the ladies in the church on Monday mornings. \u00a0She gave me a solid foundation in painting before she passed on.<\/p>\n

It was difficult to make the transition to painting with a teacher to painting on my own. \u00a0There was no one to ask for help and I floundered a bit before I found my own style. \u00a0Janie (my original teacher from church) would turn over in her grave if she saw some of the things I do now in my painting but, oh, well…<\/p>\n

I have learned to paint from the back to the front~distance, what you see far away in your painting should be painted first, then work progressively from the back to the front. \u00a0It is systematic. \u00a0It is logical. \u00a0It is not easy.<\/p>\n

Flowers are a lot of fun to paint and are probably my favorite. \u00a0My least favorite are mountains. \u00a0They are very pretty but not much fun. Bob Ross had it right when he said there is joy in painting! \u00a0Here is a pic of a painting I did a couple of months ago. \u00a0It is in my hall bath.<\/p>\n
