Today’s Run: \u00a0Ham Radio Testing<\/p>\n
Today we took off for Vernon, Alabama. \u00a0My husband and I, as you know, are Amateur Radio Operators and my husband is a high mucky-muck kind of a person who actually administers the exams that people must take to become a “ham”.<\/p>\n
We arrived at the testing site only to discover that it was actually the county jail! \u00a0We thought, surely this was the wrong place! \u00a0But, nope~the jail was the correct place. \u00a0We had one side of the building and the people in the “service of the state” had the other side. \u00a0Interesting experience. \u00a0I had never been to a jail before. \u00a0I just lead a sheltered life, I guess.<\/p>\n
There were six people there to take the test. \u00a0They were nervous. \u00a0We got there a little early and they were all sitting around eating fried chicken, potato salad and baked beans. \u00a0We walked in and they all got quiet. \u00a0Like I said, they were nervous. \u00a0It was funny to think that we could spoil someone’s dinner just because they were nervous about a little test.<\/p>\n
Everyone but one person passed! \u00a0That is pretty good because those exams are not easy! \u00a0So congratulations to all the new hams out there today!!!<\/p>\n
Other exciting news is that this was my first official day as W5MSH. \u00a0Last night I received my notification that my request for a vanity call sign was approved and I am very excited!!!<\/p>\n
