Today’s Run: \u00a07.16 miles<\/p>\n
As you know, we have been working on a 1941 Silvertone consul radio (model 7048). \u00a0This radio, has been, in my opinion, a nightmare radio. \u00a0My husband says is has been a little challenge, so it must fall somewhere in between. \u00a0I cannot think of one thing that has worked on this radio!<\/p>\n
We thought that this project would be just replacing the wax capacitors and tubes and plugging it in again. \u00a0Wrong. \u00a0We did replace all the\u00a0capacitors, the tubes and a couple of resistors. (I purchased all the capacitors and tubes for this radio at the ham fest we went to a couple of weeks ago in Jackson, Mississippi).<\/p>\n
We replaced all the above and plugged it in and NOTHING. \u00a0Not even static! \u00a0So, we did some patching on the speaker. \u00a0We really were not too terribly\u00a0surprised\u00a0to have to work on the speaker.<\/p>\n
We plugged it in again. \u00a0Static!!! \u00a0The speaker worked~the radio, most decidedly, did not.<\/p>\n
Hmmm….what to try next.<\/p>\n
We tested everything we could and determined that the T-1 was dead. \u00a0We took that off and found a coil with a broken wire. \u00a0Reconnected\u00a0the wire and soldered it, put the T-1 back together and that was happy! The radio was not.<\/p>\n
Hmmm…what next?<\/p>\n
We knew that a person had done some work on this radio back in the 1970’s. \u00a0It is our opinion that this individual did not have the foggiest idea as to what to do to this poor radio. \u00a0We found a coil (?) that had been removed!!! \u00a0So, we jimmy rigged a capacitor to do the job and plugged it in again.<\/p>\n
We heard voices! \u00a0Yup!<\/p>\n
We turned the dial and heard more and different voices! \u00a0It is working!!!<\/p>\n
We gave each other a High Five and sat back feeling content at a job well done. Success!!!
