Today’s Run: \u00a04.22 miles<\/p>\n
Made a phone call this morning to Bushy Mountain Bee Farm. \u00a0This is the place from where I order my bee keeping equipment. \u00a0It is Springtime and just like the bunnies, bees start hatching new larvae at an alarming rate. \u00a0They are preparing for the Summer and to do that, you need a lot of bees.<\/p>\n
In the Spring, you need to make “splits”. \u00a0If you do not make splits, you risk swarming of your bees. \u00a0Splits are when you divide the population of your hive~hence the name, splits. \u00a0It is not a complicated process but you need the equipment for housing the bees. \u00a0You need bottom boards, supers, frames, queen\u00a0excluders…all the things necessary to make a happy home for the bees.<\/p>\n
This year we are a little short on supers and frames. \u00a0We needed to order two more complete hives. \u00a0So, I called Bushy Mountain.<\/p>\n
The other reason I called was because I was getting stung through the top of me bee hat. \u00a0We have an incredibly grouchy hive and they really “drill” when they get upset and they have been stinging me through the top of my hat. \u00a0Ouch! \u00a0So, I talked to the lady about a different type of head protection.<\/p>\n
Surprise! \u00a0That should not happen!!! \u00a0They are looking into it and they may replace my hat~FREE! \u00a0Cool Beans!!!<\/p>\n
