{"id":1167,"date":"2013-02-12T18:24:14","date_gmt":"2013-02-12T18:24:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=1167"},"modified":"2013-02-12T18:24:14","modified_gmt":"2013-02-12T18:24:14","slug":"vanity-call-signs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/TM\/?p=1167","title":{"rendered":"Vanity Call Signs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s Run: \u00a060 min lifting at the &#8220;Y&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I have been KC0JPT since January 30, 2001. \u00a0KC0JPT is my Amateur Radio (&#8220;ham&#8221;) call sign given to my by the FCC way back then.<\/p>\n<p>I hold a Technicians license with the FCC as a &#8220;ham&#8221;. \u00a0I took a written test way back in 2001 and actually passed! \u00a0I had to wait a couple of weeks to receive my &#8220;call sign&#8221; and then I could legally operate on air as \u00a0a ham~as KC0JPT.<\/p>\n<p>Hams are know usually as emergency people. \u00a0People who broadcast for the weather service during severe weather, doing traffic\/emergency relays during road relays\/races&#8230;just doing communication in general. \u00a0Hams like to talk!<\/p>\n<p>My husband is the one responsible for getting me involved in Amateur Radio. \u00a0He has been a &#8220;ham&#8221; since high school. \u00a0He really likes to do code (Morse\u00a0code). \u00a0He has talked to roughly 120 different countries and to all of the states in the United States. \u00a0He is a &#8220;Good Ham&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>I, other the other hand, am a &#8220;Bad Ham&#8221;. I am not very active with talking to people on air. \u00a0But that is okay. \u00a0If the need arose, I would be there to help!<\/p>\n<p>All that to say, I received a new call sign yesterday from the FCC! \u00a0I am no longer KC0JPT. \u00a0I am now, KF5TRG. \u00a0Why the change? \u00a0We moved from Colorado to Mississippi and I decided to change my call sign to a Mississippi call sign. \u00a0And I wanted to change to a Mississippi call sign so I could get a Mississippi vanity call sign.<\/p>\n<p>So, last night I applied for my vanity call sign: \u00a0W5MSH. \u00a0It should take 2-3 weeks for the application to go through and for the approval. \u00a0Sure hope I get it, because it is perfect!<\/p>\n<p>73&#8217;s!!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s Run: \u00a060 min lifting at the &#8220;Y&#8221; I have been KC0JPT since January 30, 2001. \u00a0KC0JPT is my Amateur Radio (&#8220;ham&#8221;) call sign given to my by the FCC way back then.
