Those of you who know me, know that I am a total and complete #numbersnerd.
Must count the miles. Must add up the miles by the week. Must add up the miles by the month. Must add up miles by the year.
I’m a terrible #numbersnerd!
Last year I signed up with #RunTheEdge for their Run 2015 miles in 2015 challenge. It was a fun challenge and I ended up running 2400-ish miles in 2015. I felt a lot of pressure to hit that magic number of 2015 and decided this year to not have a mileage goal.
I know, right!?! A #numbersnerd without a set mileage goal for an entire year!?!
Stranger things have happened.
When 2016 kicked off, I was facing some fatigue issues but I didn’t take the time to address the fatigue. I had a marathon in January and an Ultra the first weekend of March. As soon as I had recovered from the Ultra, I needed to focus on a marathon in the middle of June…..
You get the idea. I was running *literally* on an empty tank. Something had to give.
My coach had me rest up practically the entire summer. My mileage dropped from 200 mile months to the low-mid 100 mile months. I couldn’t remember when I’d run such low mileage! I needed that down time. I needed it bad.
The Berlin Marathon arrived in September and I decided to run it and just have fun. Sure, I would LOVE a PR but I wasn’t willing to gut it out in Germany. I knew what was going to happen two weeks after I returned and I knew better than to jeopardize it.
Two weeks after my return from Germany, 100 Mile Training kicked into high gear. My nice, easy weeks and months from the summer were *poof* gone!
Today is the last day of October and I added up my miles for the month. Total miles for October: 212.64 miles. 2016 miles to date: 1808.26 miles.
I think(?) I will hit 2000 miles for 2016 but there’s no pressure. I’m running because I love to run! I’m running to be prepared for my events. I’m running because I’m having the time of my life!
Today’s run was 6 miles on the trails with a running friend of mine. We ran out at Lake Lowndes State Park. Gospel according the Garmin stated we had 1700′ elevation gain in those 6 little miles! Holy Hills, Batman!!!
We had tons of fun out there today!
My plan, as it stands right now? I’ll be adding my two short run days, Saturday and Monday as trail run days. As I get stronger on the trails, I’ll be adding Thursdays and then eventually Wednesdays as well. I NEED to get stronger on those hills and trails!
100 Mile Race is February 4. The clock is ticking! I’m feeling motivated, are you?
