Mish-Mash

I don’t have anything in particular to talk about this time but I do have a few tid-bits I can tell you.  None of these are big enough to make an entire post so we’re going to hop from subject to subject and just chat.

First things first:  Yesterday’s dark o’clock run.

You all know that summer in Mississippi is very hot and humid. I have a pretty tough time doing my long runs with the sun shining in conjunction with the heat and humidity of the day.  To survive, I do all my long run in the dead of the night.  All my other runs are done in the daytime like a normal person.  Just the long runs are at night.

Yesterday’s long run started at 2:30am.  MFH (My Favorite Husband) tagged along for the first 4 miles of this run.  That was such a treat!!!  *I don’t think he’s a huge fan of dark o’clock running, btw.

As I made loops past the house during this run, I would be met with this sight:

Totally creeped me out the first time until I figured out what that was.  It was Kali, my cat.  She was perched on top of the mailbox watching me run.  That dot of light is her eyes glowing in the dark.  What a goofy cat!  When I finally finished up the run, she hopped down off the mailbox and followed me into the house.  smh

Today was a quick 4 mile recovery run.  We were expecting rain so I was doing my best to beat the rain.  #success

MFH and I have been discussing my upcoming 100 mile race.  Granted, the race isn’t until February but I need to collect things that will be put in my different drop bags along the course.  Rather than buy it all at the end, right before the race, I’m collecting some of these items now.  One of the things I purchased today was a bladder for my hydration vest.

I wear an Ultimate Direction Jenny Vest.  This thing is SWEET!  Pockets everywhere!  It doesn’t bounce or chafe.  It comes with two 10oz bottles that go on the front of the vest.  That’s plenty for when I’m running around here but I’ll be needing to carry more hydration on the race than just 20 oz between water stops.  I decided to get a bladder.

The Jenny Vest comes with the place for a bladder, it’s just not included in the initial purchase.  I’ll have one some time next week.

When the mail arrived today, I was doing the happy dance!

If you recall, earlier this year I was invited back to be a Race Ambassador for the Mississippi Blues Marathon.  The “Blues” is hands down the best race in Mississippi!  LOVE this race!  Being invited back is an honor and I was thrilled to be able to accept the invitation.

Well, today my racing singlet arrived in the mail.  This is a shirt that is for Race Ambassadors (#MSBlueCrew members) only.  Sweet, right?

I love it!  The MBM17MH is the discount code I can give to people who want to register for the Blues.  This code will save $10 at the time of registration.  Would love to see you at the Blues!!!   http://www.msbluesmarathon.com/

A few months back I entered the Runner’s World Cover Contest.  This is a super fun contest!  What you do is write a little bio about yourself~your Ah-Ha! moment about why you started running and post a few recent pics of yourself.  I did that.  Then you tell some of your friends that you entered the contest, post the link online. People have the opportunity to vote for you.

This week, the judges went through all the entries.  There were 1077 entries.  The judges selected 100 runners to go on to the semifinals.  Those 100 runners then have 24 days to continue to collect votes.  At the end of the 24 days, the judges will again go through the entries and select 10 runners to go on to the finals.  From those 10 runners, the judges will then pick the #1 Man and #1 Woman to grace the cover of the December issue of Runner’s World Magazine!

Well, I was one of the 100 runners selected to be a semifinalist!!!  I have to say that I am completely humbled that so many people would support me for something like this.   Here’s the link if you’d care to vote:   http://coversearch.runnersworld.com/entry/22/

So, last:  I had a sugar craving tonight.  Does that ever happen to you?  I knew EXACTLY what I wanted.  I wanted a slice of carrot cake.

It is a very rare occasion when I really, really want something like this.  My sweet husband started Googling the restaurants in our town until he found a place that had carrot cake.  Isn’t he the best!?!

We hopped in the car and I got my slice of carrot cake and he had himself a slice of pie.  What a fun time!!!

No run tomorrow so I probably shouldn’t have had that cake.  LOL!!!  Instead I have yoga.  This will be my second time doing yoga.  I should be able to do this pose by the end of the session, right?
