Success!!!

Last Wednesday, I had the run from hell.  I attempted to run from the Shell Station adjacent to Highway 82 to my son’s apartment (approximately 20 miles apart).  It was an Epic Fail.

The weather last Wednesday was rather warm.  Very sunny.  No breeze.  I overheated.  Got dizzy.  Quit sweating.  It was not any fun.  I gave up at mile 13 and called MFH (My Favorite Husband) to come and get me.  I felt like a failure.  I had never had a DNF in a training run let alone a race!

Today, the same run was staring me in the face.  Again, it was rather warm.  It was very sunny, BUT there was a very nice breeze coming from the West and I was heading West the entire distance.  Cool Beans!

The first 10 miles of the run was not much fun.  I could not get myself in gear.  It was a struggle.  I stopped at the second water stop next to EMCC (East Mississippi Community College).  I filled up my water bottle with some Gatorade and treated myself to a Gu.  I took off for the hilly section of Highway 182.

I do not know what changed but all of a sudden my pace picked up 1.50 minutes per mile.  I was sailing!  Awesome!

Up one hill and down the next.  Traffic was heavy but I did not care.  I was being careful but cruising along.  This was great!  I stopped at the third water stop, changed my socks and took off again.

The next thing I knew, I was at the Highway 82 clover leaf.  I tip toed past that~that is a tricky spot, and pulled off to my last water stop. I called MFH to let him know where I was, that way he could start from home and meet me at my son’s apartment.

A couple of more miles through the apartment complex and ta-dah!  There I was.  Mission complete!  What an awesome run!!!
