Schaeffer’s Chapel

Today’s run:  5.32 miles

A year ago, almost every blog I wrote, running related blog I should say, was about Schaeffer’s Chapel.  Today will be no different.

Schaeffer’s Chapel is a real place.  It is a quaint and cozy chapel nestled next to a picture perfect cemetery.  There are lovely trees surrounding the chapel.  Dainty flower beds and parking signs that say, “This parking place reserved for our Senior Saints.”

How perfect is that!?!

It makes a terrific destination run.  Round trip it is 5.32 miles from the driveway.  Last year, there was some consternation as to whether this favorite route of mine would have to come to an end.  The little gravel road with the 1920’s era plank bridge had been closed.  We did some “minor trespassing” for a while to be able to continue on our favorite route.  Finally, a guilty conscious put an end to that.

THEN, they started building the new highway.  This was a gift!  This opened an entirely new avenue to reach my beloved Schaeffer’s Chapel!  Hey, YA!  MFH (My Favorite Husband) and I utilized every stage of road construction we could to reach the Chapel.

Then I got injured.  That annoying stress fracture.  That put the big kabosh on running to anywhere let alone Schaeffer’s Chapel.

Last Saturday, I tried my first steps running again post fracture.  A whopping 1.50 miles.

I have been adding mileage gradually over the course of this week until today~HURRAY!!!  I was able to run again to Schaeffer’s Chapel!!

This was a wonderful, wonderful accomplishment!  MFH went with me.  He kept saying, “How is your leg?”  “Are you sure you are up to this?”

I never answered him.  I just kept on running~with a big smile on my face.  I was so happy! You have no idea how exciting it was to reach my destination…my very most favorite run in the world~and I was running it!

I am Happy.  I am Content.
