Marathon Training Week 12~~~49 Days Until Race Day!

Today’s Run:  18.36 miles

Today sees the conclusion of week 11 of our (my husband and I) marathon training program.  That means that tomorrow we kick off week 12.  That also means we only have 49 days until we toe the line!  I can hardly wait!

We literally had a long, slow run this morning.  We began our run this morning, trotting out the door at 4:30 am ~we have learned that you CAN run in your sleep.  Amazing the things that the human body can do!

When we began this morning, it was 74 F.  97% humidity.  Soupy.  When we finished 4.38 hours later, it was 82 F. 84% humidity and 70 degrees dew point.  We would have been better off trying to swim than run!  BUT~it was an awesome run.

Even though the weather conditions were brutal, we were strong the entire run.  Our pace was consistent from the very beginning.  No negative splits this morning but we were consistent!  That is a good thing.

Our son, bless his heart, got out of bed early and met us at the half way point and acted as a water stop!  On a Saturday morning to boot!  That really was a life saver because after the last scheduled water stop, we had to rely on the water in our Nathan belt.  By the time we reached the meeting house, our water was gone.

There was a shooting around 1:00 am on the MSU (Mississippi State University) campus.  I think the MSU police were still searching for the shooter while we were running around and around and around the campus.  Every single MSU police car, pick-up, SUV and bicycle were out in force.  You usually do not see that strong a presence at 6:00 am on a Saturday.  I wonder if they found him/her yet?  It was a little disconcerting running around the campus knowing they were looking for someone with a gun.

So, tomorrow begins week 12 out of an 18 week schedule.  Next weekend is a “fall back” run of only 13 miles.  I say “Only”. Funny how your perspective changes!  We will run our 13 miles on Friday morning because on Saturday morning I am going to run a Color Run with my Sister!  How much fun is that!?!
