Eeeeek!!!

Today’s Run:  Rest Day

Eeeek!!!  That is what I said.  But it was all Paxton’s fault.  He started it.

I was having a quiet dinner of scrambled eggs by myself (my husband and son were gone fishing) when the dog started going nuts.  He was whining and scratching at the door.  He really wasn’t acting like he had “to go”, so I couldn’t figure out what was the problem.  I really did not want to leave my eggs because everybody knows that cold eggs are gross!

Paxton was persistent, so I left my eggs and looked out the back door.  There, in the back yard were my chickens, eight of my nine chickens wandering around the back yard.  One of them was even up on the patio!  No wonder Paxton was having kittens!  Oh, boy!  Now what do I do!?!

I went out the door.  Told Paxton to “STAY!” (He obeyed!  Miracles never cease!) and tried to round them up.  They came up to me as happy as can be, “Cluck, cluck, cluck”, “Let’s play!”.  I tried to catch them and they kept right out of reach.  I guess we were playing.  I did not like the game.

I knew this to be a lost cause and went back into the house and grabbed a yard stick and a wool duster on a long stick.  I then trudged two doors down to the neighbors house.  Fortunately one person was home and was willing to “Play”.  He took the sticks and we devised a plan.  The chickens did not stand a chance.  We were a team.  They were independent souls.  Ha!

One by one, we caught ourselves a chicken.  We would corner one and my neighbor would keep the hen in place and I would grab her by her tail feathers (I was tired of being nice) and drop her over the fence.  It took us almost 45 minutes to catch 8 silly chickens!  They really liked to “Play”.

They are now in their pen.  They are disgruntled but they are safe and sound.  Nobody likes being picked up by their tail feathers.  Hope they forgive and forget fast!
