I wanted to stay around the house so I could get in a couple hours of work before the day got too far along. And I accomplished that.

This week I was scheduled to help the ham radio club put up a couple of antennas on a short tower. But that didn’t pan out. I may do that on the 18th instead.

The scheduling is a bit tricky because the tower is on top of part of the county courthouse and we need the right people lined up to give us access.

We had an interesting development with the A/C for the radio station.

The company had told me they would send out a technician. But this week they informed me that wasn’t going to happen because there was no technician coverage in our area. And that was a bit of a surprise since we got a box in the mail with a part in it. The label says it is a replacement control board.

So… their plan B is to replace my unit completely. And to do that they required that I take the serial number label off and cut the power cord and send them pictures of these things along with a form to be filled out and photographed. (And they will send me a label to return the part.)

I did all of the form and cord cutting and pictures. I missed a couple of boxes on the form so I am re-sending that part.

They are supposed to then send me a new unit or give me a refund.

I put the old A/C unit back in, the one I took out in June. That one does produce cold air most of the time. It seems to have trouble at random times. I have been going out and checking on it 4-5 times a day and I think I’ve had to restart it twice today. I suspect it probably needs a new motor start capacitor and when the compressor tries to start it is failing to spin up.

The broken “new” unit kind of decided it might work. So if I get really stuck before the replacement new unit arrives I can patch up the power cord temporarily and put it back in play. If the old unit goes completely out that may be the thing to do. Or I can just shut down the station until the replacement arrives.

I’m wondering if I should have two units with one as a standby. These little 5000 BTUs are the smallest they sell at Lowes. The “new” one is an 8000 BTU, the next step up. Either one will cover the load, particularly during the cooler part of the year. I have a completely separate electrical service for the radio station shed, so I have all of the electric I might want to pay for. I could poke another hole in the wall and have redundant A/C units.

If I do dump the “new” broken unit I will need to find a way to dispose of it. I feel mildly guilty that I might be able to continue using the broken “new” unit. But being stuck with the disposal goes a long way to even that score.

I had dinner on Friday with a couple from Alabama that I’ve known from an on-line running group for a long time, probably about 30 years.

I had met the husband once before in Colorado long ago. We went rock climbing. He was in the area for a conference but had some free time. I really enjoyed it.

This time they are doing a 444 mile multi-day bike tour on the Natchez Trace parkway (which is also a National Park or Monument or something). We got together in Starkville and had a lovely conversation. I would have gone on and on, but they needed to get a good sleep to continue on their with their bike journey.

[Today’s run: 3.2 miles] I ran from home this morning instead of going to Starkville.
