I was intending to use it for my work. I have some scripts that run gstreamer to simulate the cameras we use for our multi-camera vehicle systems that we are working on. I was running them on my work laptop but they were swamping the processor. I thought I could run them on the Nuc separate from the other stuff running on the laptop and maybe that would all work.

Well, I had it kind of working but not completely. And the Nuc didn’t boot up correctly.

So I changed the script a bit and used a slightly different simulated camera. Instead of using “snow” I used solid color. Since it is not dynamic it was no longer hard on the laptop processor and I can drop the Nuc idea.

After work I worked on the boot up of the Nuc. I updated the firmware. And I fiddled around in a general way and eventually it started to boot ok without having to go into the manual boot selection screen. So that was a win as well.

My work laptop is starting to have some keyboard issues. I usually use an external keyboard, so it doesn’t bother me a lot. But I’ve decided to ask for a new one. I was told when I opened a ticket on the keyboard issue that I am due for a newer machine if I need it. We were unable to fix the keyboard issue, so today I put in the request for a new laptop.

It has had a hard life. The front right corner is all dented up. I had it out one time while working on a big 4WD loader. I had set it on one of the tires, which are about 4 feet tall. It fell off and landed on the ground and made a dent on that corner. I’ve been using it for over two years like that and I don’t think that is causing the keyboard issue. I think my keyboard probably has dirt in it. But there isn’t much I can do about it.

We were doing our breakfast Bible reading this morning. The church publishes a cycle of weekly readings based on the Westminster Confession. We started over recently, so we are currently in the early 10 comandments.

The reading was from Deuteronomy 29, about the issue of worshiping other gods, and I noticed something I had not seen before:

24 All the nations will say, ‘Why has the Lord done all this to this land? Why this great [h]outburst of anger?’ 25 Then people will say, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt. 26 And they went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods that they have not known and whom He had not allocated to them.,

I noticed that use of “allocated”. It is used in the context of a prophetic quote of other people, so I don’t know if that gives it any theological weight. But I thought it was interesting.

[Today’s run: 3.2 miles] I did some wrestling that that Intel Nuc I bought awhile ago.
