I really like cold water.

On hot days in the summer, a cup of cool water goes down very easy.

I have a couple of metal coffee tumblers that insulate very well. I put some ice in there, then some water, put the lid on and shake it up. The water is then so cold and delicious.

When we lived in Estes Park the water coming out of the tap was cold, cold enough to drink straight. And it tasted very good.

Our water in Mississippi is from a rural water association, which is a shared well system. It usually tastes OK but sometimes not so much. It is “soft” water, takes a lot of water to rinse off the soap in the shower.

When I was growing up in Iowa we sometimes had chlorine tasting water. That happens in Mississippi too. For that kind of situation, if I fill up a pitcher and put it in the fridge, the chlorine taste dissipates over time and the water stays chilled.. it tastes good.

When I eat at restaurants I get frequent refills.

If I buy water in bottles I like Dasani, which is just filtered water bottled by the Coke company. Their website says they put some minerals into it. I think it does taste better than the cheaper bottled water at the convenience store.

If I get to doing some heavy work in the heat, or athletic effort, I’ve been drinking Gatorlyte. It really works for me. I like it better than normal Gatorade.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of having dinner with two of the people I graduated from high school with in 1980. Dan and Lynn married and have children and grandchildren. Dan does computer programming and Lynn is in education and remote learning. I had lost track of them right after school, so we had nearly 40 years to catch up on.

We met at Tasty Tacos, which is a Des Moines treat for me almost every time I come to town.

We talked about our paths through school and career. Both of them were in Christian secondary education for a while. Then Dan branched off into computer programming. He does something kind of similar to what I have done but with different languages and different purposes. Be we can converse about similar things.

Lynn went back for graduate school in English and Rhetoric, which is something I don’t know a lot about. I had recently read Francis Schaffer’s “The God Who Is There” which is about Christianity as an answer to post-modern philosophy. And somehow I had picked up that Rhetoric is kind of a post-modern discipline as it is currently taught. So I told her I thought that was a brave thing to go into, which I do. She seems to have survived the experience and is taking on a new role as Director of Digital Education at FBBC.

I’m glad I got to talk to them, to see that they are doing well.

At least from my limited knowledge, Lynn is the only PhD from our graduating class.

[today’s run: 3 miles] I’m a water drinker.
