{"id":815,"date":"2011-05-29T19:12:58","date_gmt":"2011-05-30T00:12:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=815"},"modified":"2011-05-29T19:17:31","modified_gmt":"2011-05-30T00:17:31","slug":"back-on-the-tower-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=815","title":{"rendered":"Back on the tower today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: Watson road 3.5 miles]<\/p>\n<p>Back on the tower a bit this afternoon to get those top guy wires attached and remove the temporary rope guys.<\/p>\n<p>It was a bit breezy!\u00a0 I went up and attached the cable guys; came down and we tightened them up.\u00a0 Then I went up again and dropped the temporary rope guys.<\/p>\n<p>I also dropped a bright colored string down the center of the tower so we can use it to get things all straight and true.<\/p>\n<p>We tided up the extraneous ropes and such, got all of that cleared away.<\/p>\n<p>I use my rock-climbing harness and helmet when doing tower work.\u00a0 In this picture I am trailing my climbing rope so that I can rappel down.\u00a0 That works out nicely.\u00a0 I have to concentrate to keep my brake hand on the rope and use the other hand to fend off the tower.\u00a0 But it is a lot faster than climbing down.<\/p>\n<p>I am really glad to have those top guys in place.\u00a0 That is much more stable then with just the ropes.<\/p>\n<p>Next task\u00a0 is to get the rotator and mast in place.\u00a0 And I need to do some grounding work at the base.\u00a0 I hope to have a VHF antenna put up in time for the ARRL June VHF contest on June 11th.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-816\" href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?attachment_id=816\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-816\" title=\"IMG00380-20110529-1309\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG00380-20110529-1309-700x525.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG00380-20110529-1309-700x525.jpg 700w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG00380-20110529-1309-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/IMG00380-20110529-1309.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: Watson road 3.5 miles] Back on the tower a bit this afternoon to get those top guy wires attached and remove the temporary rope guys.
