{"id":656,"date":"2011-05-01T16:29:55","date_gmt":"2011-05-01T21:29:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=656"},"modified":"2011-05-01T16:31:11","modified_gmt":"2011-05-01T21:31:11","slug":"empty-nest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=656","title":{"rendered":"Empty nest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: limerock road &#8211; 4 miles]<\/p>\n<p>Again this spring we have bluebirds nesting in our newspaper box.<\/p>\n<p>Our mailbox is a brick thing\u00a0 standing by the side of the road near our driveway that has a standard-issue USPS mailbox embedded in it.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 And below that is a piece of white PVC pipe embedded in the brick which is used by the newspaper delivery guy.<\/p>\n<p>We got a bit worried about the bluebirds because they would fly out every time anyone came near to the mailbox. And the newspaper guy would just stuff the paper in there, so I think they must have been inconvenienced to say the least.<\/p>\n<p>We did eventually see three little hatchlings.\u00a0 One we later found expired at the foot of the mailbox.<\/p>\n<p>I went out to take a picture of the others, and the nest is empty!\u00a0 Didn&#8217;t see the little guys at the base of the mailbox.\u00a0 Maybe they were mature enough to fly away?<\/p>\n<p>The adults bluebirds are still fluttering around on the other side of our narrow road.\u00a0 So maybe the little ones are in the grass or in a nearby bush.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-657\" href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?attachment_id=657\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-657\" title=\"IM000692.JPG\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/bluebird_nest-002-700x525.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/bluebird_nest-002-700x525.jpg 700w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/bluebird_nest-002-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/bluebird_nest-002.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: limerock road &#8211; 4 miles] Again this spring we have bluebirds nesting in our newspaper box.
