[Today’s run: 5 miles in Starkville in the rain]<\/p>\n

I’m taking apart this old laboratory equipment, and most of it was designed and built in the late 1960’s and through the end of hte 1970’s.\u00a0 This was before surface mount, so the parts are “through hole”.<\/p>\n

I took some pictures of a couple of features I don’t see very often.<\/p>\n

The first is this little plastic-rivet thing used as a “via” and as a tie in point.<\/p>\n

They will have multiple components coming in, sometimes from both sides.<\/p>\n

I had seen these only one place before, and that is in my HP oscillator that I use in the GPSDO. Here’s a picture of that.\u00a0 (The dark cylindrical thing on the right which says “101” on it is the capacitor that was supposed to be a 15pF but is really a 150pF.)<\/p>\n

The other thing I found unusual was this connector. It is two opposing sets of “forks” which intermesh. At each end of the line of forks is a pin\/socket arrangement to keep the thing aligned.<\/p>\n
