{"id":619,"date":"2011-04-25T17:43:41","date_gmt":"2011-04-25T22:43:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=619"},"modified":"2011-04-25T17:46:33","modified_gmt":"2011-04-25T22:46:33","slug":"why-i-went-to-georgia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=619","title":{"rendered":"Why I went to Georgia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: Downtown Y to almost SFM,\u00a0 6 miles]<\/p>\n<p>I admit it:\u00a0 I like to buy things and I especially like to buy things cheap.\u00a0 So I keep my eye on internet auctions and every once in awhile I will bid (low) on something.\u00a0 And I sometimes win.<\/p>\n<p>I used to watch ebay quite a bit, but not any more.\u00a0 The market is so big that the prices easily get too high for me.\u00a0 Then I did govliquidation.com for awhile.\u00a0 But they made their minimum bid $150 and that is just not any fun.<\/p>\n<p>So my recent internet auction attention has been on http:\/\/www.gsaauctions.gov\u00a0 The beauty of that auction site is that it is run by the General Services Administration so you really are buying straight from the government.\u00a0 (www.govliquidation.com is a reseller that buys bulk stuff, mostly from the defense department, and resells it for the best price they can get.\u00a0 And their customer service is not so good.)<\/p>\n<p>Last week I bid on a large VHF duplexer\/combiner system in Georgia.\u00a0 I put in the minimum bid.\u00a0 Nobody else put in a bid, so I won it.\u00a0 I had 10 days to go get my winnings.\u00a0 So that is why we went to Georgia.\u00a0\u00a0 My plan is to resell most of the components of this thing to hams that want to build VHF repeater systems.\u00a0 And the rest will go on ebay or end up in my own junkbox.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-620\" href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?attachment_id=620\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-620\" title=\"combiner\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/combiner.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: Downtown Y to almost SFM,\u00a0 6 miles] I admit it:\u00a0 I like to buy things and I especially like to buy things cheap.\u00a0 So I keep my eye on internet auctions and every once in awhile I will bid (low) on something.\u00a0 And I sometimes win.
