{"id":6045,"date":"2017-10-02T19:57:16","date_gmt":"2017-10-03T00:57:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=6045"},"modified":"2017-10-02T19:57:16","modified_gmt":"2017-10-03T00:57:16","slug":"a-season-for-broken-things","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=6045","title":{"rendered":"A season for broken things"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 3.5 miles]<\/p>\n<p>The radio station transmitter died (mostly) on Saturday, as I mentioned before.<\/p>\n<p>Today our washing machine went.\u00a0 We were happy to get a man right out to look at it and he declared it a loss.\u00a0 We have a Sears Home Warranty which we started a year ago, the last time we had washer problems.\u00a0 The repair man used to work for Sears and he said they should replace it.\u00a0 Later, the lady on the phone seemed to be trying to dodge that.\u00a0 But we will wait and see what they do.<\/p>\n<p>And then, at work we had a network switch die which had all of my users kicked off of their usual work for a couple of hours while we figured it out and worked around it.\u00a0 That story had a more-or-less happy ending with a fix before the end of the business day and no data lost.<\/p>\n<p>I was doing some shopping and data gathering for the transmitter.\u00a0 I can get the most likely part for $150 and replace it myself.\u00a0 No guarantee it will do the job.\u00a0 The factory will repair it for an estimated $400-$900.\u00a0 Or they are happy to give us $900 &#8220;credit&#8221; toward a new one ($2100).\u00a0 Other vendor&#8217;s products are $2800-$5300.\u00a0 I have no idea what we are going to do.\u00a0 If I had the money I would buy a mid-priced new one and the $150 part.\u00a0 With luck we could fix the old one and have it on the shelf for the next outage.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 3.5 miles] The radio station transmitter died (mostly) on Saturday, as I mentioned before.
