{"id":5854,"date":"2017-05-17T20:50:08","date_gmt":"2017-05-18T01:50:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=5854"},"modified":"2017-05-17T20:50:08","modified_gmt":"2017-05-18T01:50:08","slug":"book-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=5854","title":{"rendered":"Book Club"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 3 miles of hills in town]<\/p>\n<p>When I was a kid there was a radio show on the WOI public radio station called The Book Club.\u00a0 A fellow named Doug Brown would read for an hour.\u00a0 He was an entertaining reader.<\/p>\n<p>Since we started this audio books radio station I have tried to find out if any of his stuff is still around.<\/p>\n<p>It turns out that the ISU library has some of it, but not very much.\u00a0 They sent me a list and a price sheet for what it would take to get copies.\u00a0 The stuff is on casette tapes, even some reel-to-reel tapes, and a few CDs.\u00a0 Anyway, I picked out a few, was told they were not clean copies, so I picked out a few others.<\/p>\n<p>Doug Brown passed away a few years ago but his widow lives in Ames.\u00a0 The library folks work with her to get permission to copy the material, and I had a bit of email conversation with her.\u00a0 She was very gracious.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone was very helpful.\u00a0 But there just isn&#8217;t much out there to be had.\u00a0 He did this every week day for 20 or more years.\u00a0 Some of what he read were modern works under copyright.\u00a0 I wonder if that is why they didn&#8217;t record very much; in order to avoid copyright problems with the book publishers\u00a0 (or maybe they had a one-time-use license of some sort).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 3 miles of hills in town] When I was a kid there was a radio show on the WOI public radio station called The Book Club.\u00a0 A fellow named Doug Brown would read for an hour.\u00a0 He was an entertaining reader.
