[Yesterday: 5 miles (about a mile of it walked)]<\/p>\n
We have two children, our eldest is a daughter and the youngest is a son.<\/p>\n
Our daughter is getting married this summer.\u00a0 The wife and I are excited about that.\u00a0 We like her fiance and we hope they have a long and happy marriage.\u00a0 They both have aspirations for family and career, and we wish them every success.<\/p>\n
About that same time our son will be finishing up his M.A. in journalism.\u00a0 We are proud of his accomplishments and academic achievements.\u00a0 And we’re hoping that job opportunities open up for him about that time (he reports that he is already hearing some good things in that area).<\/p>\n
We have two smart and accomplished adult children.\u00a0 We enjoy being connected to them and hearing about their lives.<\/p>\n
It’s pretty amazing. These little people come along and they take part in our household, they and their pets and their friends and their stuff.\u00a0 And then they branch out and leave the house and develop their own goals and talents and lives.\u00a0 And they can choose to stay connected, or not.\u00a0 They can be embarrassed or ashamed of their parent’s household, maybe denounce it and never look back.\u00a0 That happens often enough.\u00a0 I know some parents who were very loving and provided and directed and did their honest best only to have children cut them off. \u00a0 So it’s nice to think they voluntarily keep that connection open.<\/p>\n
I’d like our children to have children some day.\u00a0 It’s not really my business or anything, but I would like it.\u00a0 For one thing, I think it would in some way vindicate the household we made for them when they then get to share those challenges and apply their own personality and the experiences they had in our home to bring up their own children. I’d like to see that happen someday.\u00a0 And for another thing, I hope they would find it rewarding and maturing to have children of their own.\u00a0 I’d like to be around to see what they become at that next step.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
