[Today’s run: 3.5 miles]<\/p>\n
I recently purchased something on a government auction website.\u00a0 I was the only bidder and I spent $25.\u00a0 I thought it was a pretty good deal.<\/p>\n
After winning, I paid my bill online, as usual.\u00a0 Then I started to get my act together about going to get the item.<\/p>\n
I was thinking all along this thing was at a military installation about an hour south of here.\u00a0 So I arranged with my co-worker to cover for me so that I could go down there early in the morning, pick up my item at 8 am, zoom back home and be working again by 10 am.\u00a0 All of that was ready to go.<\/p>\n
I called the place to confirm they would be open at 8 am.\u00a0 I got into a conversation about how to get into the installation and things suddenly turned surreal.\u00a0 He said, “You’ll be coming down I-59 through Hattiesburg…” and my eyes glazed over.\u00a0 Hattiesburg is 2 hours south of here, maybe more.<\/p>\n
It turns out the item is at the Stennis Space Center down on the gulf coast.\u00a0 It’s about a 4 hour drive one way.\u00a0 Uh-Oh.<\/p>\n
So I told him that wasn’t going to work.\u00a0 I need to talk to the lady in charge of the auction and see if there is anything I need to do to slip out of this thing.\u00a0 They have my $25 and that’s fair.\u00a0 I’m OK with just having them throw the thing in a dumpster, give it to a homeless person or sell it again.\u00a0 It is not the kind of thing that is worth driving 8 hours or having it gathered\/boxed\/shipped by the UPS store.<\/p>\n
