[Yesterday:\u00a0 30 minutes split between elliptical machine and treadmill]<\/p>\n

On Monday we traversed the UP of MI from west to east.\u00a0 We followed the south shore of Superior up to the Apostle Islands area, then drove on to Marquette.\u00a0 Then we went on 41 to the south and picked up the north shore of Lake Michigan and followed that all the way to St Ignace.\u00a0\u00a0 We took the ferry to Mackinac Island, had dinner, and came back.\u00a0 Then we drove on to overnight in Gaylord, MI.<\/p>\n

Yesterday we drove from Gaylord to the Detroit area with a quick stop in Frankenmuth<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Frankenmuth was impressive.\u00a0 It reminded me of Pella, but even more successful in turning a cultural motif into commercial success.<\/p>\n

In Detroit we visited with my wife’s “running buddy”.\u00a0 She is paired up with this boy and his family.\u00a0 She posts things on the internet about him and converses with his family.\u00a0 She shares her running experiences, particularly race medals and such. It maybe doesn’t sound very impressive when I write it out, but the family seems to appreciate the encouragement.\u00a0 The little guy has a lot of from-birth health problems and his family has to give him 24\/7 care.\u00a0 So they have their plate full and maybe a bit of outside encouragement is a good thing. We had a very nice visit, I thought.<\/p>\n

Then, we were aiming to find a motel just past Toledo, OH, but things were booked up so we continued on to Ft. Wayne, IN.<\/p>\n

Today we are supposed to have lunch with the wife’s on-line running coach.\u00a0 Tomorrow we aim to have a quick meeting with more running friends near Nashville, TN.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
