[Today’s run: 7 miles, about 2 miles of that walking due to heat]<\/p>\n
There’s been an advertisement in the classifieds of our little local newspaper all week listing two motorcycles for sale.\u00a0 One of them is of interest, a mid-80’s BMW R80 “airhead”.\u00a0 They listed it for $1800.\u00a0 I called the guy today.\u00a0 He called me back and I went over there.<\/p>\n
On the phone he told me that the BMW had a broken glass in the instrument cluster and maybe needed new bearings in the rear swingarm.\u00a0 That didn’t sound so bad.<\/p>\n
When I got there I saw that both of the bikes were in state of disassembly.\u00a0 And, on the BMW he had chopped off the rear part of the frame under the seat with the idea of making a single-seat “bobber” bike out of it.<\/p>\n
I told him at the time that it looked like more of a project than I am ready to take on. I wouldn’t mind having a motorcycle rebuilding project, but I don’t have $1800 to spend to buy a pile of parts.\u00a0 I’m pondering the idea of leaving him a phone message that I’d love to take the BMW pile if he decides to give it away.\u00a0\u00a0 I probably won’t do anything at all unless his advertisement persists in the newspaper.<\/p>\n
He was an interesting person to talk to; I enjoyed meeting him.<\/p>\n
