{"id":4422,"date":"2014-07-23T07:30:41","date_gmt":"2014-07-23T12:30:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=4422"},"modified":"2014-07-23T07:30:41","modified_gmt":"2014-07-23T12:30:41","slug":"hp-105a-crystal-oscillator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=4422","title":{"rendered":"HP 105A crystal oscillator"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Monday&#8217;s run: 3.4 miles, Tuesday: 0]<\/p>\n<p>There was an interesting selection of auction stuff recently from an FCC site in Georgia.\u00a0 I bid on a couple of things but ended up as the sole bidder on an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ko4bb.com\/Manuals\/09%29_Misc_Test_Equipment\/1%29_Brochures_and_Datasheets\/AGILENT-HP_105A.PDF\">HP 105A crystal oscillator<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It turned out that the nice people at that FCC office were willing to arrange the boxing and shipping if I could get them a prepaid UPS label, which I did.\u00a0 That saved me probably 30-40 dollars against having the local UPS Store pick it up and box it.<\/p>\n<p>So the 105A turned up on Monday and I plugged it in and here it sits.<\/p>\n<p>I plan to let it warm up for a few days and then try to get an ADEV plot of it vs. my GPSDO.\u00a0 Since they use similar crystal oscillators as the basis, I&#8217;m not sure that I will see much.\u00a0 Over a long, long, long timeframe, the theory is that the GPS disciplined oscillator will adjust via the GPS while the non-disciplined oscillator will slowly drift due to crystal aging.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure how much is &#8220;long, long, long&#8221;.\u00a0 I guess I can leave them both plugged in and doing the readings for a month or so, as long as I can keep my computer up and capturing the data.<\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned for more excitement on this front.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Monday&#8217;s run: 3.4 miles, Tuesday: 0] There was an interesting selection of auction stuff recently from an FCC site in Georgia.\u00a0 I bid on a couple of things but ended up as the sole bidder on an HP 105A crystal oscillator.
