{"id":4418,"date":"2014-07-19T08:12:17","date_gmt":"2014-07-19T13:12:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=4418"},"modified":"2014-07-19T08:12:17","modified_gmt":"2014-07-19T13:12:17","slug":"iowa-landscape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=4418","title":{"rendered":"Iowa Landscape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Thursday: 3.4, Friday: none, Today: none]<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday I drove with my daughter from northeast Mississippi to central Iowa.\u00a0 Our route took us north into the western end of Tennessee (avoiding Memphis), across the Mississippi river into Missouri, then north around St. Louis.\u00a0 We went through Hannibal then up through eastern Iowa to Mount Pleasant and WNW on 63\/163 to Des Moines.<\/p>\n<p>The corn is high in Iowa.\u00a0 I was struck by the rolling landscape and the contrast with the manicured look of the fields:\u00a0 rows of corn or beans, mowed ditches, neat homesteads.<\/p>\n<p>Having grown up in Iowa, the land in Mississippi looks lazy, like it is not doing anything.\u00a0 I guess that&#8217;s not really true since you&#8217;ll often see rows of pine trees planted like a crop just like a corn field.
