{"id":4388,"date":"2014-06-29T12:57:52","date_gmt":"2014-06-29T17:57:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=4388"},"modified":"2014-06-29T13:12:41","modified_gmt":"2014-06-29T18:12:41","slug":"arrl-field-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=4388","title":{"rendered":"ARRL Field Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Saturday: 7 miles; today: rest day]<\/p>\n<p>Starting at noon yesterday was the annual ARRL Field Day ham radio event.<\/p>\n<p>The idea of Field Day is to take your equipment out to a field location, set up some temporary means to work radio, operate for a day and then take it down.\u00a0 It is to support the disaster preparedness aspect of ham radio.<\/p>\n<p>But it also is a vehicle for a club activity.\u00a0 We have a very active ham radio club in Lowndes County, with our own radio set-up in a building in town.<\/p>\n<p>I went in about 4 in the afternoon yesterday and operated until almost midnight.\u00a0 I did take a break when a thunderstorm came through.\u00a0 I went back in for another hour this morning to get our total of CW (morse code) contacts up to 100.\u00a0 That is not a high number, but it&#8217;s not bad for what we were doing.<\/p>\n<p>Various people in the club brought in food and drink.\u00a0 Some operated and some just visited.<\/p>\n<p>I haven&#8217;t been doing a lot of ham radio recently.\u00a0 I surprise myself because that has been my main hobby for the last few years.\u00a0 I still like it and I still intend to do it.\u00a0 But my radio thinking has been focused on the new LPFM radio station project.\u00a0 I would really like to get moving over the hurdle of initial startup-funding for the LPFM station.\u00a0 But it hasn&#8217;t happened yet.\u00a0 And that has me a bit stymied in the other radio project areas too, it seems.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Saturday: 7 miles; today: rest day] Starting at noon yesterday was the annual ARRL Field Day ham radio event.
