In my work with the radio station project I had someone send me an invitation to join the LinkedIn website<\/p>\n
I had avoided that site in the past, mostly because I already have enough internet time wasters\u00a0 with facebook and blogs.\u00a0 But now I have added Twitter.\u00a0 And I joined LinkedIn.<\/p>\n
I put myself down as “Executive Director of Classic Book Radio”.\u00a0 Which is true.\u00a0 That’s not a money-paying job, but it is more high-faluting than my real job.<\/p>\n
Since I joined that, I have added in “connections” to some of the people I know.\u00a0 A lot of them are from the Dead Runner’s Society.\u00a0 Some are from my past: school days, etc.<\/p>\n
The thing that impresses me at the moment is that a lot of these people have really impressive resumes.\u00a0 They’ve got MBA’s or Phd’s and they are VP of this or Director of that.<\/p>\n
I guess that comes with the territory if you get to be in your 50’s.\u00a0 The GoGetters in your realm of acquaintance will be millionaires by then, or it probably isn’t going to happen.<\/p>\n
Which means that I’m probably not one of those.\u00a0 Law school is out.\u00a0 Captain of Industry – nope.\u00a0 Some days I’m doing good to just keep my hands off and not break anything.<\/p>\n
I assuaged my depression at being just a “computer guy” by looking at the cash flow through my billing system.\u00a0 It is about $20M per month.\u00a0 Now, that’s just on paper.\u00a0 The real product is delivered by other means and the money comes back by other means.\u00a0 But my system makes sure the right people get credit.<\/p>\n
