The one political issue of the day that bothers me the most is so-called “gay marriage.”<\/p>\n
At various times I’ve tried to figure out why it bothers me so much.\u00a0 No, I don’t think roving bands of homosexual men are going attack me (even though that has happened to other people).\u00a0 I don’t think I’m going to get any irresistible homosexual urges (although that has happened to other people, so they say).\u00a0\u00a0 That’s not it.<\/p>\n
One conclusion that I came to was that I think redefining marriage is an affront to the Fifth Commandment.\u00a0 That commandment says: Honor your father and your mother. How is it honoring to have family units, officially blessed by our society and culture, which force children to deny the existence of a father or a mother?\u00a0 The offense is similar to having a government policy which generally requires a person to bear false witness against their neighbor (like public denouncing).\u00a0 Why would we want to do that?\u00a0 What possible benefit for a few could outweigh the blatant evil slant of such a construction?<\/p>\n
Well, the judges and lawyers have made a case for same-sex marriage built on equal protection, the idea being that since heterosexuals can “marry whoever they want” then so homosexuals should be able to also.\u00a0 Of course, the premise is wildly false, no such rule works for heterosexuals and has never even been imagined.<\/p>\n
The next step, already brewing, is plural marriages of various sorts.\u00a0 And the next step after that is to remove any impediments to incestual marriage, since homosexual relationships can’t produce biological children.<\/p>\n
And the final step will be to have any-to-any mix and match of relationship and call it “marriage”.\u00a0 There’s no reason in the current train of thought that two heterosexual men couldn’t get married and enjoy tax benefits; or two women, or two of each.<\/p>\n
This is all because we’ve come adrift from the purpose of marriage as a stable construction for child-rearing households.\u00a0 And same-sex marriage wasn’t the first erosion and it won’t be the last, but it is a big one.\u00a0 Now marriage is officially about the partners, the children aren’t even in the discussion.\u00a0 The Fifth Commandment is stricken.<\/p>\n
