{"id":4162,"date":"2014-02-08T19:49:11","date_gmt":"2014-02-09T01:49:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=4162"},"modified":"2014-02-08T19:53:08","modified_gmt":"2014-02-09T01:53:08","slug":"bad-math-at-the-bookstore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=4162","title":{"rendered":"Bad math at the bookstore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: Limerock road: 4 miles]<\/p>\n<p>I went to Books-A-Million today with my nephew.\u00a0 We looked at a lot of books.<\/p>\n<p>I finally settled on a poetry anthology and he, after claiming he wanted to read Dante&#8217;s Inferno, changed his mind and bought a Calvin and Hobbes anthology.<\/p>\n<p>We went to the checkout.<\/p>\n<p>My poetry anthology had all sorts of discount stickers on it.\u00a0 I figured I should get it really cheap.\u00a0 Maybe they would pay me to haul it away.<\/p>\n<p>I asked her how much was mine.\u00a0 She couldn&#8217;t wait for me to dig out my BAM discount card and asked for my phone number.\u00a0 Then she rang up the Calvin and Hobbes first.\u00a0 I asked again and she scanned mine and said, &#8220;$6.95&#8221; and I said, &#8220;ok&#8221; and handed over my credit card.<\/p>\n<p>About halfway to the car I did a double take.\u00a0 The original price was about $10 and I should have got 60% off.\u00a0 That would have been down in $4 land, not $6.95.\u00a0 I have no idea where the $6.95 figure came from.<\/p>\n<p>But I wasn&#8217;t interested in hauling nephew back into the store and the poems are worth the money to me.<\/p>\n<p>So I&#8217;m venting here.\u00a0 Arrrrrrgh!<\/p>\n<p>Ok.\u00a0 That feels better.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?attachment_id=4163\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4163\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4163\" alt=\"mystery price book\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Scan_Pic0087-700x1041.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"1041\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Scan_Pic0087-700x1041.jpg 700w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Scan_Pic0087-688x1024.jpg 688w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Scan_Pic0087.jpg 1245w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: Limerock road: 4 miles] I went to Books-A-Million today with my nephew.\u00a0 We looked at a lot of books.
