[Today’s run: 7 miles]<\/p>\n
I’ve been working at my current job for 15 years as of the end of this month.<\/p>\n
I work as a database administrator and systems administrator.\u00a0 I’m not really strong on either one, but I can usually figure things out or get some help.<\/p>\n
The thing I have enjoyed doing is building a system , it’s various hooks and tendrils and pieces.\u00a0 The system gets the job done and usually runs, more or less, by itself.<\/p>\n
I’ve built in some warnings and cross-checking and other stuff so that I will usually find out if something is wrong.\u00a0 And then I can just sit back and let it run.\u00a0 I do a lot of that.<\/p>\n
Sometimes I will get a call for an adjustment or change or some new piece.\u00a0 And I then craft a new piece and put it in place, or make some change to the existing pieces.<\/p>\n
It all runs pretty well, if I may say so.<\/p>\n
But then I find that some part isn’t working well, or some thing I didn’t think of.\u00a0 Sometimes, frequently!, I’ll find that either I had put in a trap for that or I was lucky and it just had never come up before.<\/p>\n
But there are some parts that I don’t enjoy working on.\u00a0 And those can get a bit gruesome.\u00a0 I don’t want to change them or figure out the “right” thing.\u00a0 So I just patch around it or put it on the bottom of the\u00a0 to-do pile.\u00a0 What I’m supposed to do is clean that stuff up.\u00a0 What I’d rather do is move on to something else.<\/p>\n
I think they might make me stay until I get that stuff cleaned up.\u00a0 Bummer.<\/p>\n
