{"id":3434,"date":"2013-03-20T16:18:44","date_gmt":"2013-03-20T21:18:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=3434"},"modified":"2013-03-20T16:18:44","modified_gmt":"2013-03-20T21:18:44","slug":"one-more-evil-capacitor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=3434","title":{"rendered":"One more evil capacitor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run:\u00a0 5 miles]<\/p>\n<p>We were using the bigscreen Pelco monitor the other day and I left it plugged in (and off) when we were done.<\/p>\n<p>Modern monitors and televisions which use a remote control are never really &#8220;off&#8221; while they are plugged into the wall.\u00a0 Anything which is sitting there, waiting for you to push the &#8220;on&#8221; button of the remote control must have something going on or it would not be able to respond to the remote!<\/p>\n<p>Leaving the Pelco plugged in resulted in a monitor which would not come on when I pushed the power button.\u00a0 Uh-oh.\u00a0 So we took the cover off and I looked at the power supply even more closely.\u00a0 Did I miss a bad capacitor?\u00a0 Had one of our replacements gone bad already?<\/p>\n<p>After some close examination, and replacement of one capacitor which probably is not bad, I then found the bad guy.\u00a0 Instead of being rounded and puffy on the top, this fellow decided to blow out the bottom toward the circuit board.\u00a0 Very sneaky.<\/p>\n<p>So, we got him changed out.\u00a0 The monitor has been plugged in for about 20 hours now and it seems to be working ok.\u00a0 I have been using it with my laptop.
