{"id":3317,"date":"2013-02-06T15:59:04","date_gmt":"2013-02-06T21:59:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=3317"},"modified":"2013-02-06T17:52:53","modified_gmt":"2013-02-06T23:52:53","slug":"weather-station","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=3317","title":{"rendered":"Weather station"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 4 miles]<\/p>\n<p>My government surplus weather stations (3) arrived yesterday.\u00a0 I have tried two of them out and they seem to work fine.\u00a0 They came with some mounting hardware, a manual, and a couple different cables for connecting\/configuring.\u00a0 It looks like I can also use my own cable for attachment.<\/p>\n<p>Data comes out in ASCII strings on an RS-232 serial connection.\u00a0 It can be configured to send European or US units (F\/C, in\/mm, etc).\u00a0 There are sensors for wind speed and direction, temp, humidity, pressure, rain\/hail.\u00a0 They include a heater circuit to keep the rain sensor from icing up.\u00a0 Pretty cool stuff.<\/p>\n<p>Now I have to figure out what kind of user interface I want to use.\u00a0 I think I would like to create a simple LCD display which shows the temp, wind, etc.\u00a0 Then I would like to go wireless.\u00a0 Wireless would mean also coming up with a non-wired power source like solar and\/or batteries?\u00a0 Lots of ideas.\u00a0 Wouldn&#8217;t it be cool to have an autonomous weather station out in the yard that talked html over wifi?\u00a0 Then I could bring up a web page on my computer and show the current readings, etc.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know if I will get that far.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.transcat.com\/Catalog\/productdetail.aspx?itemnum=WXT520-A-AB-1-B-D-3-1-B-0&amp;utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=base&amp;gclid=CIXMwKfWorUCFQ2znQod4E8ACA\">Vaisala WXT520<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.transcat.com\/PDF\/WXT520_Datasheet.pdf\">PDF Datasheet<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 4 miles] My government surplus weather stations (3) arrived yesterday.\u00a0 I have tried two of them out and they seem to work fine.\u00a0 They came with some mounting hardware, a manual, and a couple different cables for connecting\/configuring.\u00a0 It looks like I can also use my own cable for attachment.
